Dear colleagues.

As you will know the issue of refugees and asylum has been one of particular concern for us here in Canterbury Diocese for some time now.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the generosity shown during the Advent Justice Appeal. Over £4,000 was raised to help continue our work in this area, for which I am extremely grateful. I know more donations are being sent in all the time, so if you would like to continue to give, you can do so online, or find details of how to send in a cheque here.
With this work in mind I would like to draw your attention to a free information event that has been organised by Domenica Pecoraro our Refugee Officer concerning the Government’s, Community Sponsorship Scheme. This is an initiative which allows groups, including communities of faith, to come together to sponsor and support a Syrian family to come over to the UK.
Taking place on Thursday 15th March 2018, 9.30am to 3.30pm, at St. Pauls Church, Church Street, Canterbury, this will be an opportunity for you to:
• find out what community sponsorship is and how communities can help resettle refugees
• hear from leading voices and sponsors in the UK on their experiences
• get advice from experienced organisations and those involved in the application process
There will be speakers from the British Syrian Community, The Home Office, Local Government and other successful Community Sponsors.
I would invite you to look at the information attached and to prayerfully consider whether you, or your church, are being called to respond.
You can find out more information, and book your place through this link. There are a limited number of places and we are already experiencing significant interest in this event.

Yours in Christ,

Trevor
