Death of former postmistress.

Mrs Joan Guthrie, who formerly ran the Hollingbourne Post Office in Eyhorne Street with her late husband, Ian, died yesterday after a long illness in Maidstone Hospital. She was 83.

The Guthries ran the Post Office which closed some years ago following Ian’s retirement from the Royal Engineers. Whilst running the Post Office they also organised many fund raising events for the RNLI.

Mrs Guthrie continued to live in the house adjoining the former Post Office.

She originally came from Bury and her Facebook page states that she left Bury Grammar School in 1949. Joan leaves two sons, Ian and Rory and other members of her family.

UPDATE – The funeral is to be held at 1pm on Friday 21st April and All Saints’ Church in Hollingbourne. This will be followed by a private cremation. Donations to the RNLI are invited in memory of Joan.  There will be a celebration of her life to which mourners are invited at her house in Eyhorne Street immediately after the church service.
