Summer Fete Planning Meeting – Volunteers welcome!

18th December 2017 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm
The Dirty Habit PH in Upper Street.
Upper St
Hollingbourne, Maidstone ME17

Hollingbourne’s next Annual Summer Fete and Exemption Dog Show will be  held on Saturday 9th June 2018 on the Lance Memorial Playing Field. All are welcome to attend this meeting for the 2018 event.

Hollingbourne Parish Council is keen to widen the support for the Fete which has raised thousands of pounds for local causes over the years. Unfortunately the organisation of the Fete has become the responsibility of fewer and fewer people and the Parish Council is keen to widen the membership of the Fete Committee so that it is more inclusive of the Hollingbourne as a whole. All local organisations are invited to attend.

At the first Meeting of the Fete Committee on 29th November it was agreed that the theme of event would be the “40’s and 50’s” which was the start of a 73 period of increasing peace and prosperity in Europe after WW2.  Stall prices were fixed at £15 for Hollingbourne organisations, £20 for non Hollingbourne organisations, and £25 for commercial traders in the hope that there would be more stalls. Bookings may be made via the Parish Clerk at or Tel 880526.

At the second Meeting on 18th December it was reported that Templeuve had promised to send their popular Zumba dancers for an arena display. Other confirmed events included the dog show, a display by the pupils of Hollingbourne CP School, a dance display by New Direction, and a Tug O War. It was also proposed that the Red Barrows from Cranbrook should be invited to attend. Other matters that were considered included the need to have more attractions for young people. the need to offer ice cream for sale, catering arrangements, and the possibility of selling 2.4 metre x .6 metre (8 foot x 2 foot) ground sites around the arena to local businesses. A possible Fete Guest of Honour to open the Fete was identified and an invitation is to be issued.

At the third meeting on 22nd January 2018 it was agreed to change the  theme to Heroes and that more volunteers from across the village are needed. It was also noted that the new Hollingbourne Team Vicar, the Reverend Paul Kite, had agreed to open the Fete. There was also some discussion about the catering arrangements and the need to attract more young people.

A fourth meeting was held on the 19th February and a fifth one on 19th March. The purpose of this meeting is to finalise arrangements for the bar, to make arrangements for any repairs to the stall gazebos, and to draw up an action list for the day of the Fete.

A further meeting was held on 3rd April and the need for volunteers to help with the Fete montage and de-montage on the day of the Fete as well as with the bar was identified. Furthermore the Fete Committee wishes to borrow a freezer for the day of the Fete with free transport to and from the Cardwell Pavilion. A further meeting was held on 24th April.

Further information is available from Vicki Smith, Parish Clerk Tel 880526 who will also be pleased to receive offers of help with the Fete including any offers of a freezer. Volunteers are wanted to help with the bar from 11am – please contact Beccy Stroud at
