After some months of concern about the future of Christopher’s Village Shop in Eyhorne Street there is at last some good news for Hollingbourne! It is understood that the shop will be reorganised and the future of the business is assured as long as villagers keep using it.
Christopher Rudgard writes:
After several months of uncertainty, I am delighted to confirm that Christopher’s will continue in 2018. This is due, in the main, to Paul Teague (Hollingbourne Property Services) who owns the property. He is no longer charging any rent for the shop. Thank you, Paul! The effect of this is to reduce the shop’s financial loss to a level that I am prepared to absorb. However to ensure the shop’s long-term future please use it or you may lose it!
2017 has been a difficult year for me personally and for the shop, especially with the untimely death of Ann Liddicoat. Now we are about to lose Shula Lee who is taking up a position at Leeds Castle on Monday 13th November.
Shula has worked in the shop for over eight years and for most of 2017 has been running it on a day-to-day basis, enabling me to recharge my batteries, lose over three stone and get my mojo back. Shula has been a loyal and trusted friend who will be sorely missed by me and by customers. She did consider taking over the shop entirely but this did not make financial sense or offer her the career opportunities she wants. I wish her every success and happiness in her new job. Please join us for a farewell drink from 5pm on Friday 10th November at the Sugar Loaves.
Finally, on Wednesday 6th December you are invited to Christopher’s (annual) Christmas Event. Mulled wine, mince pies and sausage rolls will be served from 10am to 2pm. You can sample many of our Christmas stock, with a 10% discount on all Christmas items purchased on the day. We look forward to seeing you!
