Hollingbourne was twinned with Templeuve-en-Pevele (Templeuve) in March 2013. Templeuve is a small town in northern France, about 11 miles from Lille and easily accessible from Calais.
Over the past four years there have been several exchanges between our two communities. We have been made very welcome at music festivals, civil receptions in their town hall which is situated in a chateau with lovely grounds,
a theatre show followed by a banquet, a Witches festival which involved quirky entertainment around the grounds of the chateau (not sure how else to describe that) and a boules tournament followed by a barbecue. On a more formal note, for the last four years we have also taken part in their annual Armistice Day activities, which includes laying wreaths on 2 British war graves in Templeuve cemetery, ending the day with a 4 hour dinner dance.
We also compete in an annual golf match, Hollingbourne retaining the Dirty Habit Cup last year, no doubt ensuring a needle return match in Templeuve this year!
For our next twinning event, we have been invited to Templeuve’s Féte de la Musique and le Parc en Féte on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June. We are advised the programme of events will include a visit to Old Lille on Saturday afternoon, with lunch in either Templeuve or Lille, followed by an evening of music (and wine!). On Sunday morning a boules competition followed by a barbecue at the local club, then Le Parc en Féte during the afternoon.
On our last weekend visit, we travelled independently and made our own overnight arrangements. However, if there is enough support, it is possible a coach/minibus could be arranged, and we understand the Templeuve committee are contacting different establishments with regard to accommodation.
Our last two mini visits to Templeuve have been enormous fun, and full of “typically French” surprises. We have great hopes for this one, and it would be lovely to have a large group attend from Hollingbourne. So … spread the word amongst your friends and enjoy a fun filled mid summer weekend in France.
