Hollingbourne Parish Council has been advised by South East Water that the Hollingbourne to Sittingbourne Road (B2163/C603) will be closed to through traffic for the installation of a new water main for six weeks from Monday 3rd April 2017. A possible alternative route to Sittingbourne is via the A249 (Detling Hill).
UPDATE as of 8th May – The road has been reopened to through traffic.
Please read more for a message from Mr Chris Love of South East Water:-
New water main installation in Swanton Street, Bredgar.
As part of an ongoing programme to improve our water network, we will be undertaking a £28,000 scheme to install 284 metres of new water main.
This scheme is necessary to improve the capacity of the network and ensure we can continue to maintain water pressure to the area as the community grows.
Work will be undertaken in the carriageway between the junctions of Bedmonton / Wormshill and the turning to Bicknor.
How can we ensure this work is done with minimum disruption to you?
Due to the constraints of working within the carriageway, we will be using a mixture of open cut and pipe insertion techniques.
The pipe insertion work will require us to excavate a series of pits where the pipe will run and then we will connect the new section of pipe to the existing mains.
As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our contractor, we will be closing the stretch of Swanton Street between the junctions to Bedmonton and Wormshill and Bicknor village for the duration of the scheme.
We appreciate this will be inconvenient for those living nearby but it is necessary to ensure the safety of road users and our workforce.
However, please be assured that access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times, and a diversion route will be clearly signposted.
When is the work due to start?
Construction is due to start on Monday 3 April, 2017, and is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.
Our contractor will work as hard as they can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.
Work will take place during normal working hours, although there may be some activities at weekends.
We have written to properties along the affected roads to ensure local residents and businesses are aware of the work. They have been given details of how to contact South East Water if they have any concerns.
We hope this letter helps to answer any questions you may have, but if you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
We shall ensure we keep you, along with those people affected by the work, updated on the progress of this important scheme.
On behalf of South East Water, may I thank you in advance for your cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience that these important works may cause.
