KCC Trading Standards warn against postcode lottery scam.

Hollingbourne Parish Council has been advised by Kent Trading Standards of a Post Code Lottery scam. Please Read More for further information.

Post Code Lottery Scam Alert

Kent County Council Trading Standards is warning residents in the Kent area of a scam. An email claims you have won £825,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The mail states that to claim the prize money, you should ring a telephone number listed in the mail. When you ring the number, you are asked to pay a release fee which can be anything between £200 and £4,000.

The real People’s Postcode Lottery is warning the public that these communications are scams and should be ignored.

Be aware that:

This letter has all the hallmarks of a prize draw scam.
If you haven’t entered a lottery, you can’t win!
Legitimate lotteries don’t ask you to pay taxes, custom fees, insurance shipping or handling or any other fee before receiving your ‘winnings’.
With a scam email or letter, you will often be asked to send money upfront.
