The Maidstone Borough Councillor for the North Downs Ward which includes Hollingbourne has written to the Clerks of local Parish Councils including our Mrs Vicki Smith about the proposed parliamentary boundary changes which would affect Hollingbourne. Please Read More for a copy of his communication.
Would you please forward this to all parish councillors & members of the public on your mailing list.
Helen Whately spoke to me and raised her concerns about the independent Boundary Commission proposing to divide the Faversham and Mid Kent constituency into three. As it stands, North Downs will be attached to a Tonbridge Constituency rather than to Maidstone.
I presume that most areas of North Downs already feel disconnected from Maidstone in many ways and being attached to Tonbridge would only enhance this feeling. Helen and I came up with long list of strong and not so strong points why we should not be moved into a Tonbridge parliamentary constituency.
However, it is most important that the electorate voice their concerns. The Boundary Commission appears to put stronger weight on representations by non-political organisations such as parish councils and individuals.
Views of the public count for more than views of politicians, so do please write in – even if you think that Helen’s response has covered your views. Do be sure to say what you support in the proposals as well as what you object to.
There is now until December 5th 2016 for written representations to the Boundary Commission. These can be made:
