Christopher’s Village Shop in Eyhorne Street today hosted their annual open house event when local residents were invited to sample some of the Christmas fare available. This may be the last Christmas event in the shop as Christopher Rudgard plans to retire in March 2017 and as yet nobody has come forward to take over the running of the popular shop which sells newspapers, groceries, and has a weekly post office on Wednesdays.
The Shop is a vital lifeline to many Hollingbourne residents as the nearest alternatives are in Harrietsham and in Bearsted which are both some miles away.
At the time of writing nobody has come forward to run the shop although there has been some local discussion about the possibility of turning the business into a Community Shop. As well as the Shop in the Eyhorne Street Conservation Area there are two public houses, a hairdressers, an osteopathic clinic, and the Village Hall.
