The Hollingbourne Meadows Trust and the Leeds and Hollingbourne Royal British Legion Branch joint project to plant 100 hawthorn trees to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War will be launched shortly.
The trees will be planted in an Avenue of Remembrance on the Hollingbourne Meadows Trust land at the rear of Tilefields and the hawthorn tree has been selected because it links together with other hawthorns in the same way that the comrades in the Great War did including many who did not come home.
The organisers hope to raise £250,000 including £100,000 which will be donated to the Leeds and Hollingbourne Branch of the Royal British Legion.
