Hollingbourne Parish Council has become aware of a proposal to close the public footpath across the railway line on the Bearsted side of the station. The alternative route to the footpath which leads to Broad Street through Strickets Garden and Newland Wood is via the footbridge at Hollingbourne Station.
A public notice about the proposed closure was spotted by Eyhorne Street resident Sarah Trought who posted an item on Facebook which is reproduced below. Comments are required by 1st September 2017 to firstname.lastname@example.org or Tel 03000 413420.
One local resident has already contacted KCC on this matter and has received the following response:-
I should clarify from the outset that this proposal is to divert the footpath and not close it. Please see attached plans (below) which show how this is proposed. The idea is to close off the level crossing on grounds of safety and re-route the footpath over the existing station footbridge and alongside the railway.
On that basis I would welcome your comments on whether you consider the diversion is in the interest of public safety and if you agree that the proposed route is not substantially less convenient to the public.
I would also be grateful if you would clarify to your neighbours that the footpath is not going to be closed, but rather moved.
