Yesterday on Good Friday local train-spotters turned out to watch the Belmond Orient Express Pullman train steam through Hollingbourne. The train was on a circular five hour journey which from London Victoria through Kent with tickets costing from £340.
The journey from Victoria at 11.05 included a champagne reception and a five course lunch as the train steamed through the Kent countryside. Pullman trains have previously travelled through Hollingbourne and at one time they stopped in order that passengers could visit Leeds Castle. Hollingbourne Station is the closest station to the Castle.
The engine number is obscured by the Golden Arrow sign but it is the Southern Railway Merchant Class pacific type (4-6-2) engine called “Clan Line” (number 35028). More details about the engine are at https://clan-line.org.uk/
