Volunteer Support Warden Scheme

Following the pilot pf the Volunteer Support Warden Scheme in the summer of 2016, Kent County Council are pleased to announce that the full scheme will be offered to up to 24 Parish and Town Councils.

The role of the Volunteer Support Warden (VSW) has been designed to alongside the Kent Community Warden Service (KCWS) and Local Councils. The aim is to improve the community and create resilient neighbourhoods allowing residents to enjoy a good quality of life.

More information can be found on the leaflet accompanying this article.

There is a minimum participation of two years for any council which elects to have a VSW and the cost to Local Councils is as follows;

Year 1 – £1,075 which includes Uniform, equipment, mobile telephone handset, secure fob for remote IT access, advertising and other material.

Year 2 and subsequent years – £585 which includes access to out of hors logging on and off system, mobile phone line rental and expenses and training.

This equates to just £16 per week over 2 years.

A VSW can be shared with a neighbouring council and in which case the costs will be shared equally.

The VSW scheme will sit alongside the Kent Community Warden Scheme, it will not replace it, and therefore any participating Local Council will gain additional support from the service.

KCC Commitment

KCC will bear any reasonable unforeseen cost relating to equipment or training in years one and two.

Direct supervision of the VSWs from the Kent Community Warden Service.

Administration of VSWs including time recording, maintenance of regular contact, resolution of issues.

Induction and basic role training provided by KCC and Partners

The Parish council considered this proposal at the council meeting on Monday 11th December 2017 and would like to hear from residents on their views of participating in this scheme no later than Sunday 11th February 2018.
