WI Stall wins first prize at the Hollingbourne Summer Fete.

Hollingbourne’s Women’s Institute won first prize for the best stall at today’s Annual Fete and Exemption Dog Show which was attended by almost a thousand people. There were nearly thirty stalls and a full Arena programme which continued until late afternoon before proceedings were interrupted by heavy rain. The evening event featuring the Screaming Blue Scoundrels continued with the spectators under the stall gazebos which were corralled around the entertainment area.

Sir David Steel, CEO of Leeds Castle, opened the Fete and the prizes were presented at the end of the afternoon by Joelle Dupriez, Vice-Mayor of Hollingbourne’s twin French community of Templeuve. Over 50 people came from Templeuve for the day and were met by the Hollingbourne Twinning Committee with coffee and refreshments at All Saints’ Church on arrival from France before the start of the Rio Olympics themed Fete.

The openinmg of the Fete was preceded by a small motorcade of classic cars through the village and the aafternoon’s events included sports races, displays by the children for Hollingbourne County Primary School, an Exemption Dog Show, a dance display by Direction Performing Arts, and a Tug O War Competition.

A Summer Fete Reveiew meeting will be held on Monday 27th June in the Dirty Habit at 8pm to consider a date for the 2017 event and other matters.
