- Remember to close and secure all doors and windows at night and when you go out
- Keep front and back doors locked, even when you are at home during the day – to prevent burglaries
- Don’t leave property visible close to a window
- Keep your car keys safe and out of sight
- Don’t advertise that you are out. Invest in a light timer switch
- Make your shed too tough to crack
- Secure shed windows internally with steel mesh or bars
- Pin up curtains to obscure the view through the windows
- Use a solid secure padlock to secure shed doors
- Fit a battery or mains operated burglar alarm
- Etch or paint your postcode onto valuable items
- Photograph items and check your home insurance policies to make sure these are coved
