Brickfields Close is the new name for the Fernham Homes development in Eyhorne Street.

Hollingbourne Parish Council has been advised by Miss Susan Francis, the Street Naming and Numbering Officer of Maidstone Borough Council that the new name for the Fernham Homes development of 12 houses to the east of Eyhorne Street between Godfrey House and Claygate will be Brickfields Close. Other names suggested by Hollingbourne Parish Council and which were discounted included Blackthorn Walk because there already is one in Harrietsham and Meadow View of which there are several in the Maidstone area.

The name is linked to the historic use of the site for making bricks and nearby roads include Claygate and Tilefields.

Pictured below is the plan of the Fernham Homes development which is too small to require any affordable houses as there are less than 15 houses on the plot. Any development of more than 14 houses must include affordable housing and the Parish Council has so far been unable to persuade Maidstone Borough Council of the need for affordable housing in the village on any of the recent sites which have been built, or are being built, or may be built in the future.
