On Saturday 22nd June the Hollingbourne Meadows Trust and The Hollingbourne Women’s Institute organised a highly successful evening picnic on the Meadows Trust land near to the railway arch in Culpeper Close. Over 100 people attended and the event went on until 2am the next morning. One of the features of the evening were very popular firepits which people sat round as the evening became cooler.
The firepits were borrowed for the occasion and all but one had cooled sufficiently by the 23rd to be taken away when the Hollingbourne Meadows Trust marquee was taken down. The remaining one was left by the gate into the meadow behind Godfrey House and it was intended that the firepit would be collected sometime in the week commencing the 24th June. The firepit was spotted by a dog walker at about 9am on Monday 24th after which it seems to have disappeared. The firepit is fairly cumbersome so it is not easy to carry or conceal.
Ben Williams of the Hollingbourne Meadows Trust writes:
After last weekends WI mid-summer party, when we cleared up on the Sunday, we had to leave the fire pit as it was still burning.
I went to pick it up today and it has been moved, does anyone know were it has gone? only the Trust borrowed it and will have to buy a replacement if it does not turn up.
Please spread the word on all social media so who has ever borrowed it can return it.
The ashes that where in it have been very considerately tipped out along the hedge.
