Hollingbourne’s Twinning Committee has received an invitation from the French War Veterans Association to attend two days of events from 23rd to 24th March which will mark the anniversary of the end of France’s war in North Africa.

Notes from The Royal British Legion
This is a very quiet time of year for our branch, but it all starts off soon with a committee meeting and our first branch meeting on Tuesday 5th March, 7.30 pm Hollingbourne village hall. Everyone is most welcome !
You will recall that in my February article I mentioned that we won the Moore trophy, our friends in Bearsted and Thurnham will be interested to know that I have the awards showing that Bearsted and Thurnham RBL branch won the Moore Cup in 1947, 1948, & 1950. Tremendous achievements, for a very popular and strong branch in days gone by. Bearsted & Thurnham branch amalgamated with Leeds & Hollingbourne branch in February 1989….30 years ago.
Also at the County Conference our branch donated £2000 to County and poppy appeal which was by far the largest donation made on the day by any Kent branch. With thanks to Chris Sims our treasurer for being able to release this generous donation.
Having worked hard to commemorate the centenary of WW1 and P100 last year we have 2 occasions to commemorate this year. On 3rd September it is the 80th anniversary of the beginning of WW2 and on 6th June it is the 75 anniversary of D Day. So we must dream up ways of commemorating both of those dates and would welcome any ideas.
I’m sure you remember that Hollingbourne is twinned with Templeuve in France and we have made regular visits there especially on Armistice day.
We have been invited there on Sunday 24th March to take part in their 50th anniversary of the adhesion of the war veterans of the Algerian war society. This is a very important occasion to the Templeuve war Veterans society which we aim to support. Apparently we need to be in Templeuve square by 11.00am for a short service of remembrance at the Cemetery and monument in the town square. Followed at 3.00pm by a 3 hour, 3 course lunch / dance. The cost of lunch being 18 eu last date for booking the meal is 17th March. Transport very much dependant on numbers wishing to attend. Please contact me or keep an eye on the Hollingbourne web site to obtain more information. I do hope that a party will be joining us on this event to show our branch and Hollingbourne’s support.

No other Hollingbourne and Templeuve Twinning events are currently planned although the Templeuve Twinning Committee is due to meet with a new Chairman on 21st February. However some Templeuve residents are expected to attend the Hollingbourne Annual Fete and Exemption Dog Show on 8th June.
Reproduced below is the Templeuve poster for the occasion.
