At the June Hollingbourne Parish Council Meeting Christopher Rudgard announced that he will be retiring from running Christopher’s Village Shop and Post Office in Eyhorne Street in January 2020 and that he would welcome proposals for keeping the loss making retail outlet going as it is a lifeline for many residents as the nearest alternatives are at least three miles away in Bearsted and Harrietsham.
At that time Eyhorne Street resident Maria Domican stepped forward and proposed that a Community Shop working group be established. This was publicised on this website and in the July issue of the Parish Magazine and short questionnaires about the future of the Shop were distributed at the Mid Summer Nights Picnic on 22nd June. Others copies are being circulated in the village in due course.
Since then the response has been slower than anticipated and the questionnaire can be downloaded at Hollingbourne-Community-Survey.pdf (75 downloads) or completed on line at www.hollingbournevillageshop.com . Maria Domican can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org Copies of the survey are also available from Christopher’s Village Shop.
Hollingbourne Parish Council is keen that a shop continues in the Village as it is both a useful facility and a social hub and the Council will do whatever is possible within the legal constraints placed on Parish Councils to keep the Shop open.
