Every year on the Saturday before Christmas carols have been sung around the village Christmas tree on Tanyard Green which is donated by Leeds Castle. The team that has been doing this for many years feel that the time has come for the organisation of this popular event to be handed on to a younger generation. Unless volunteers come forward there will be no event this year.
The event is financially supported by Hollingbourne Parish Council who pay for the mulled wine and mince pies that are provided. In normal circumstances the event this year would have been on Saturday 17th December from about 6pm to 7.30pm depending on the weather and the numbers of people taking part.
The routine for the organisers is as follows:-
Put notices up round the village and in Christopher’s village shop.
Find an accompanist with an instrument. Set up a gazebo, with a light, for the accompanist.
Buy Mince Pies.
Buy cheap red wine to make the Mulled wine, and buy squash for the children. The mulled wine needs to be transported to The Green in a container of some sort.
Buy plastic cups/beakers.
Serve mulled wine and mince pies etc from a table.
Ask to borrow carol sheets from the Church.
If you feel that you could help or would like to take over the organisation of this annual event please contact the Parish Clerk, Vicki Smith (Tel 880526) or via e-mail at email@example.com
There is a family carol service in All Saints’ Church at 11am om Sunday 11th December which will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies. All are welcome.
Pictured below is the tree in 2014. This year’s tree will have energy saving lights on it. Another tree sponsored by Andrew Snowdon and the Stroud family will be on Eyhorne Green.
