Hollingbourne station users are advised to watch out for low branches and overgrown verges in Station Lane. Normally the South Eastern Railway arranges for the verges to be trimmed so that the foot passengers and motorists can get to and from Hollingbourne Station is safety. This does not seem to have happened so far this year and it is not necessary to duck under branches and to swerve to avoid undergrowth in order to use Station Lane.
Hollingbourne Station is not manned but it is used by nearly 1000 passengers a week. A previous issue relating to faulty lighting in the Lane was only resolved when Mr David Statham, Managing Director of the South Eastern Railway was challenged on the lack of maintenance by Hollingbourne Parish Council at a Kent Rail Summit in County Hall. The 2019 Annual Rail Summit will be on 15th October in County Hall and Hollingbourne Parish Council will be represented.
The South Eastern Railway franchise for Hollingbourne was supposed to expire in November 2019 but it has just been renewed until next year. The Station could also benefit from some redecoration.
